WHAT DO YOU THINK?

June is almost over and the real estate world here in Puerto Vallarta and the area is slow. Prices are dropping and there are way too many pre-construction projects on the market.   Basically, it is the same message that I sent to you two months ago.

I want to talk about something different.  I am a foreigner and have been living here in Mexico for the past 9 years and l have enjoyed every minute of it.  I don’t think I have had no issues in these 9 years, but I have learned that I am in a different country with different laws, rules and social norms. One thing that really creates problems is NOISE.  In Canada and the USA, we have laws that cover levels of noise between certain hours that fit within our social norms.  Mexico is different.  Roosters, dogs and music are constant.  Recently in Centro Puerto Vallarta a foreigner was able to convince the authorities that music coming from a restaurant in Centro was too loud so in the end the restaurants permit to have live music was pulled.   This foreigner wants the prices of Mexico and their idea of Mexico, but they don´t want the Mexican social norms that come with it.  It made me sad.

As a foreigner, I believe that I do not have the right to complain about another countries social norms even if it keeps me up at night occasionally.  Please come to Mexico!  Buy or rent but please do not try to change Mexico.  That is the Mexican´s duty.  We are just here as guests so let´s not be pushy.  What do you think?

If you want to see what is out there on the market and talk about your options, send me an email and I can help.

Take care,

Gerard
